Michael Cotton

Michael Cotton

Founder, CEO & General Manager

Michael Cotton is the Founder, CEO, and General Manager of XLNC Auto Beauty, where he oversees all aspects of the company’s operations, training, quality standards, and long-term vision. With more than three decades of professional experience in the automotive detailing industry, Michael has dedicated his career to raising the standard of vehicle care through innovation, education, and specialized restoration services.

His passion for detailing began long before it became a profession. As a preteen, Michael earned spending money by washing neighborhood cars for one dollar each, discovering an appreciation for hard work and the satisfaction of transforming a vehicle through attention to detail. That early passion grew into a lifelong career.

Professionally, Michael has been detailing since 1991 and has successfully founded and operated multiple detailing businesses. He launched Air Wash Auto Detailing at the Oakland Airport before opening Rider’s Detail on International Boulevard in Oakland, where he built and operated a successful shop for 17 years.

Believing that great businesses require more than technical skill, Michael made the decision to return to school to expand his knowledge of business, communications, and media. He studied Business at Laney College before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts from San Francisco State University.

Following his studies, Michael combined decades of hands-on detailing experience with his education in business, branding, communications, and media to establish XLNC Auto Beauty. Under his leadership, the company has evolved beyond traditional detailing into one of the Bay Area’s leading providers of specialty vehicle restoration services. Michael has developed innovative service processes in areas including rodent abatement, mold remediation, biohazard vehicle sanitation, odor elimination, paint correction, ceramic coatings, and advanced interior restoration—helping motorists solve problems that many conventional detailing shops are not equipped to handle.

Today, Michael continues to lead XLNC Auto Beauty with a commitment to continuous education, innovation, and customer care. His philosophy has remained the same throughout his career:

Excellence is Attention to Detail.
